4 Ways to Improve Your Garden

Gardening is a fulfilling exercise, especially when you are able to nurture plants from day one till full bloom. It can be gratifying when done right. To grow a successful garden, however, you need to plan well for it. Here are a few tips to help you improve the state of your garden and successfully grow the plant life.

1. Control Aggressive Plants

Aggressive plants tend to quickly grow and hog a lot of the space and resources in your garden. If you aren't careful, they will end up killing lots of the other plants or, at best, stifling their growth. To include desirable but aggressive plants in your garden, you need to control them. An excellent tip to achieve this is to plant them in a container, preferably a plastic one. Cut the bottom out with a knife to allow the roots to grow straight into the soil and not spread throughout the garden.

2. Manage Your Trees

Trees beautify the environment, but if they grow too big, then they can negatively affect the garden by blocking the sun necessary for other plants to grow. If your trees are too big or have a thick canopy, you should hire a tree lopper to reduce their foliage. Doing so reduces the canopy, which in turn allows more sunlight to fall on the garden plants that were previously shaded by the tree.

3. Shield Flower Bulbs

If you plan on planting flowers to brighten up and beautify your garden, it is essential to know how to protect the bulbs in the early stages to ensure their survival. One effective way to protect them is to place nets over the bulbs and to use small tent stakes hold them in place. Once they are about to start growing above the soil, you can remove the netting.

4. Know When to Plant

Knowing how to spot the best soil conditions to plant in your garden is vital for crop survival. Experts recommend commencing planting only when the soil is moist. If it seems to crumble at your touch instead of forming muddy chunks, its an indicator of its readiness for planting. Muddy chunks dry up when it is sunny and become hard, preventing the plants from setting their roots into the soil and eventually dying.

Conclusion

For a successful garden, protect the plants in their early stages and ensure enough sunlight for them to bloom.
